Every Single Dog At Adoption Event Found A Family — Except For This One
When Paw Squad 559 rescued Hot Dog from an overcrowded shelter in California, their hearts were immediately broken. She arrived at the shelter brimming with milk and no puppies, likely after giving birth to puppies her entire life. Things looked bleak for poor Hot Dog—until her rescuers stepped in and saved her.
"Sadly, due to a heart murmur, she wasn't destined to leave the shelter," Larry Holt of Paw Squad 559 told The Dodo. "Once she joined our organization, we were able to provide her with the necessary medical checkup and put her on the right path to a dignified life."
Hot Dog was placed in a loving foster home and began waiting for her forever family to find her. A year later, she's still waiting.
Her rescuers assumed she was constantly being neglected due to her heart medication needs, even though that was a very small part of her personality. To help Hot Dog on her adoption journey, Paw Squad 559 took her to an adoption event. Every dog at the event found a family that day—except Hot Dog.
“Our entire team was heartbroken when Hot Dog stayed, looking out of the playpen with a glimmer of hope,” Holt said.
No one could understand. Hot Dog was a wonderful dog. Why was she still being neglected? Amid their confusion, the rescue shared Hot Dog’s plight at the adoption event on social media—and her story went viral.
“Since it went viral, the requests have poured in,” Holt said. “Hot Dog had her first meeting this week with a family who showed up wearing Hot Dog socks!”
Thanks to the rescue’s friends, Hot Dog is finally getting the recognition she deserves. A generous donor also heard about her story and offered to cover the cost of her medication for a full year. She's currently awaiting adoption, and she's about to reach her happy ending—but many of her furry friends in Paw Troop 559 are still waiting.
"Our organization specializes in caring for vulnerable dogs, and many of the dogs in our organization wait patiently for months to be seen for who they really are," Holt said. "When a dog is adopted, another dog in need takes their place."
