Polite Dog Sits Outside Mom's Door, Waiting To Hear Her Two Favorite Words
It’s 8 a.m., and rescued dog Maggie is lounging on the cold floor outside her parents’ bedroom. After enjoying a delicious breakfast and time outdoors with her dad before he leaves for work, Maggie could have taken a nap. But instead of sleeping, she’s on high alert, waiting to hear her two favorite words from the other side of her parents’ door.
Suddenly, the sheets rustle, and Maggie peers through the open door to assess the scene. She believes her mom is awake, but there’s only one way to know for sure.
Fortunately, another Good Samaritan found Maggie by chance shortly after her family was rescued. They posted the puppy on Facebook, and that’s when Hannah Baker and her partner first learned about her.
“I knew right away she was the right dog for us!” Baker told Dodo.
Maggie settled into her new home so smoothly, it was as if she had always lived there. She enjoyed establishing a new routine with her parents, including mandatory family walks — a rule she learned to enforce strictly.
“If my fiancé and I were home and one of us tried to take her for a walk, she wouldn’t go until we went with her,” Baker said. “She would do somersaults and fall to the ground when she didn’t want to go back inside.”
“One morning, I woke up and saw her at the door and said, ‘Good morning,’ and she jumped on the bed and she’s been doing it ever since,” Baker said. “She basically taught herself that.”
Maggie was so happy when she heard her mom say, “Good morning,” that day, and she’s kept that energy up ever since. Every morning, she lays down in the same spot outside her parents’ bedroom, anticipating her favorite phrase. And the celebration when her mom wakes up is always a joy for both of them.
“Seeing her waiting for me when I wake up instantly brightens my day and makes me so happy,” Baker said.
For Baker, who adores her sweet, well-mannered pup, there is only one explanation for Maggie's unique spirit: "Maggie is a very independent dog with a big personality!"
