Amber has arrived! This morning, a kind soul found her in a ditch in Lancaster County, South Carolina, a beautiful, striated girl who had been torn to ribbons by the brutality. Amber’s face, a horrific mess of bruises, was scarred beyond measure, requiring urgent reconstructive surgery.
Amber, who was only two years old, had her whole life ahead of her despite her small frame and severe malnutrition. She was given narcotics every day for nearly five days while dedicated professionals worked tirelessly to give her a new lease on life. Amber’s face has been repaired and her nasal passages have been cleared as a result of their steadfast commitment, but the swelling serves as a reminder of her grief.
Her beautiful demeanor remains unaffected, a monument to her strength in the face of tragedy. Amber has shown tremendous courage and love as she heals and faces the challenges of heartworm treatment and sterilization.
She has relaxed after a hearty lunch, eventually snuggling into her blanket for a peaceful night’s sleep. Today, she went for a walk in her new neighborhood in the warm sunshine with her new siblings, Jack and Alice—clear evidence that she has found comfort and security in her new home.
