Their greatest wish is to find a place to call home and have a family that will love them and make them feel safe.
Betsy was one of those stray dogs who longed to feel loved and cared for. It was something she had longed for her entire life.
After she got hurt one day, she knew she had to ask humans for help. As she wandered through the neighborhood, her heart led her to the doorstep of a family she had never seen before.
Tired and hurt, she huddled in front of their house, hoping they would help her.
When April and Joe Sullivan opened the front door of their home, they were surprised to find a black dog lying on the porch. The first thing they noticed was the sad look in her eyes. The dog looked like she was about to give up.
Sullivan petted the dog and tried to make her feel better. They were heartbroken when they realized the dog was injured and unable to walk on her own.
The couple’s granddaughter was there, too. Jo had always taught her to be careful around puppies she didn’t know, but from the start, it was clear that she could let her guard down around sweet Betsy.
“There was just something about Betsy,” April said. “Even when she was sick, she would bend down to pet her, she would lick her. So sweet.”
Their granddaughter’s heart melted when she saw that Betsy loved her. She was mesmerized by the cheerful dog and couldn’t stop looking at her.
Betsy Gets the Help and Care She Needs
Once the family had fed Betsy, they decided to take her to the vet. Jo gently took her into his arms. As he carried her to his car, he gave her a loving kiss. The dog felt safe.
Jo and April don’t know how Betsy got injured, but they assume she was hit by a car. They also knew that the puppy would need a permanent home after she recovered. Once Betsy had a full vet checkup, the vet informed the Sullivan family that she had nerve damage and would need a lot of care.
Joe took Betsy home. He and his wife cared for her and hugged her. They made sure she knew how much they loved her.
Betsy was very affectionate and grateful for all the love and care the family gave her. She would lick their faces and give them sweet kisses. She would tell them she loved them, too.
The loving dog stole April’s heart, and the couple decided that Betsy would stay in their home forever. Joe admitted that he had wanted to keep Betsy ever since he saw her. He was just looking for a way to make it work.
Other family dogs don’t usually get along with other puppies, but she accepted Betsy into her pack.
“Our dogs don’t usually like other dogs. They love our dogs. They don’t love her as much as she loves them, but they’re all fine and that’s not normal for our dogs,” he said.
Thanks to the excellent care from her family, Betsy made an extraordinary recovery. She is able to walk up and down the stairs on her own.
Sullivan was happy to see Betsy develop into a happy dog who loves life.
Knowing that Betsy’s greatest wish has come true makes me so excited. She deserves to be showered with the love she lacked while living on the streets. Betsy will never be left alone again.
I hope that all stray puppies are rescued from the streets and find their way to their forever homes. All stray dogs equally deserve to feel loved and proud.
