He began sneaking out in the middle of the night to find his way to a nursing home across the street.
Scout's story is probably the most heartwarming story you'll read today!
Instead of waiting to be adopted into a new home, like many shelter dogs, this dog decided to pick one for himself — and he did it in style!
Scout found that being a full-time resident at the Antrim County Animal Shelter in Bellaire, Michigan, wasn't enough, so he decided to do something about it!
He began sneaking out in the middle of the night, ending up at a nursing home across the street.
The most interesting thing is that Scout did this not only once or twice. After being returned to the shelter, he crept into the nursing home several times, as if frantically trying to say, “This is my home, people.” Don't ever bring me back!"
Making his way to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan, even though it was located across the street, was no easy task!
Scout had to cross the highway and then sneak through the automatic doors to get there after climbing several fences.
What was strange was that he would always sneak into the facility late at night and pass out on a comfortable leather sofa in the hallway right after passing through the door.
The nursing home staff initially made sure Scout returned to the shelter, but after he kept sneaking out and then sneaking out again, they realized there was something in their facility keeping Scout calm and happy!
And then they decided to make him a permanent resident!“When Scout kept showing up here, we thought maybe he was meant to be,” says Jennifer Martinek of the MBMCF.
“We have accepted him as a member of our family.” Here is where he belongs. “He chose us,” says clinical care coordinator Stephanie Elsie.
Scout is initially welcomed as one of the nursing home residents, but turns out to be much more than that! He practically turned into the most compassionate and insightful caregiver in the facility, and everyone fell in love with him in no time!
“If you're upset about something, or everything is going wrong, it makes you feel better,” says the MBMCF resident. Scout is really happy to be here.”
The most touching thing about Scout is that he has a soft spot in his heart for residents suffering from terminal illnesses and dementia. It's as if he feels that these people need special attention, so he simply approaches them and comforts them.
“We can't imagine life without him!” “It completes the Meadow Brook family,” the MBMCF team said on Facebook.
No one knows what makes Scout so sympathetic or why he has a soft spot for old people. The only thing we know about his past is that he grew up in an abusive family.
But one thing is for sure: Scout is a caregiver at heart, and he belongs with his new family!
