A 9-year-old black Labrador named Lady Bird was found tied to a public bathroom at Splash Park in Destrehan, Louisiana.
There was food and water next to it, and attached to it was a note that said: “Be nice, dogs - no car broke down - come back soon - give my dog some water - come back in the morning.”
Because the content of the note was reasonably incoherent, local animal control assumed that Ladybug had been abandoned and dutifully took her to a rescue center called St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter.
But the next morning, they received a phone call from the dog's actual owner - who sent his thanks to the park for getting the ladybug back!
Animal control directed the person to a rescue, and workers finally learned of his heartbreaking ordeal.
In a heart-to-heart conversation, he explained that he rescued Ladybug when she was 6 weeks old. The duo has spent the past nine years as adventurers traveling the country.
But recently, he received adversity and things started to go south.
The owner was currently homeless and without a car, which was why he left Ladybug in the public bathroom to ask for some help.
He planned to maneuver to North Carolina with his dog, where he had family who were able to help him get back on his feet.
However, he was still stuck in Louisiana because he had no transportation.
The workers could see that this man was really worried about Ladybug, and he didn't want her to suffer in her final years.
After much thought, they decided to help him deliver Ladybug to his family group in North Carolina.
The best part is that several other rescues - Turning Rescues Into Pets, GreaterGood, and Wings Of Rescue have also volunteered to help!
