The Mladenovac, Serbia, dog rescue shelter received a phone call about a dog that was sleeping in a sewer pipe on the side of the road. With the cold winter weather conditions, rescuers were concerned about the dog's safety.
They were told that the dog would come out of the tube if someone passed by, indicating that the dog was looking for help. But they didn't realize how much help she needed until they arrived and found her with the puppies!
When they started searching, they noticed that the drainage pipes were buried in the snow. After searching the area, they spotted a pipe that was exposed and had footprints leading to it.
The dog suddenly appeared, peering out of the dark pipe. She approached them, eager for attention.
They checked the tube and that's when they saw her babies! The three puppies were afraid to go out, so they gave the mother the pipe back, and hoped her puppies would follow her outside, but they wouldn't budge.
So they first put the mother dog safely in their car before returning to the puppies to try to coax them into food. But the puppies were still too small to eat, and were still being breastfed by their mothers.
As night approached, they tried several other things to get the puppies out quickly. The brush and stick solution finally worked! One by one they managed to get the puppies out!
They checked the area twice to make sure there were no more puppies.
Once they returned to the shelter, the puppies and mother were treated for parasites and the veterinary care they needed. The mother hungrily ate a full meal, and they were all finally in a warm and protected place.
I think this poor family was living in the damp and the cold. Thank God they are now safe!
