A beautiful puppy, later named Bella, spent her life at a local shelter.
Dog shelters in Romania are not like those in the United States. Dogs are routinely kept outdoors in less than ideal conditions. Because of Romania’s poverty, shelters don’t receive enough food from donations, so the dogs don’t eat as much as they should.
Bella was scared and underweight. She had never been hugged or loved. Her spirits were shattered by her stay at the shelter. The video below shows the dog howling, and a Romanian rescue organization removing Bella from the shelter in order to find her a permanent home.
The rescuers and Bella run to the vet. Her face is expressionless as she sits next to her new human acquaintances in the car. She realizes that her life will change when she gets love.
Bella was exhausted. Bella barely sleeps, according to the shelter staff. She struggled to feel safe in the kennel. Her eyes start to close as she sits there and is petted. It’s nice to see her finally relax.
Then Bella does something truly touching. She puts her head in her rescuer’s lap. She manages to fall asleep as they drive to the vet. The car is quiet and peaceful, and the lady next to her seems so kind and friendly. This is exactly what Bella needed. Feeling safe is vital for a dog.
